Shuro is the bark of a type of palm tree. It is water-resistant and extremely durable. Shuro fiber is one of the best natural fibers as they are extremely thin, elastic, supple, and durable. The fiber has been widely used as ropes and nets in fishing, transportation, packing, and construction.

Shuro brooms have been used in Japan since the Edo period. It is an ideal cleaning tool for every surface from wooden floors to tatami mats. The thin, flexible fibers trap even the smallest dust particles, making it easier to clean every nook and cranny than a vacuum cleaner.

The oil content of the material prevents dust from being blown up, and continued use will leave your floors and tatami mats shining with a natural wax effect.

The tips will warp over time, but if you cut and straighten the warped ends, they will look the same as when you bought them and can be easily used for more than 10 years. When properly cared for, it is not uncommon for people to use a shuro broom for 20 years or more. They are durable, flexible, and easy-to-use cleaning tools. Please read How to Care for your Shuro Broom to make sure your broom lasts a long time.

Shuro Japanese brooms and Tawashi Shuro Scrubbers are taking advantage of the characteristics of this strong, durable, natural material.
