In the late Edo era (1603–1868), Kyobashi prospered as a bamboo market near Tokyo Bay. It was in this setting that Shirokiya Denbei began making brooms—a tradition now carried on by just three craftsmen. The long-handled Edo broom is crafted with the same attention to quality and usability as the classic short version but offers a more upright sweeping experience.
Each broom is made from broomcorn, a variety of sorghum ideal for sweeping, and tightly bound with thread rather than nails or metal. The longer handle and fuller shape make it especially suited to wide floor areas, hallways, or anyone who prefers to clean while standing upright.
With proper care, the broom can serve for many years, gradually transitioning to outdoor sweeping as the bristles shorten naturally. Its elegant form and practicality make it a timeless household companion.
Also available in a Classic Short Handle version—ideal for tighter spaces and low-angle sweeping.
