Japanese Shuro Angle Broom — Medium Handle 95cm
The one broom that handles most of the home
Handcrafted in Wakayama by Yamamoto Katsunosuke Shoten, the Medium Handle 95cm sits at the practical middle ground — long enough to sweep open floors at a comfortable standing height, angled to reach corners, baseboards, and under furniture without switching tools. Made from natural shuro (windmill palm) fibers, it sweeps quietly and becomes more refined with use.
What makes shuro different
-
Handmade in Wakayama since 1862
Crafted by Yamamoto Katsunosuke Shoten using traditional fiber-binding techniques passed down through generations. -
Natural wax effect
Shuro's natural oils leave floors with a subtly polished finish over time — no products required. -
Minimal dust scatter
Fine, flexible fibers collect dust rather than lifting it back into the air. -
Gentle on every surface
Soft enough for tatami and hardwood, firm enough to sweep properly. Will not scratch wood, tile, or stone. -
Quiet operation
No motor, no noise. Can be used at any hour without disturbing anyone in the house.
A broom with a three-stage life
Unlike mass-produced brooms, a shuro broom ages rather than wears out. The fibers soften with use and take on a slight curve shaped by the way you sweep — each pass becoming more natural than the last. Japanese broom makers have a name for this: the three-stage life. New, it sweeps fine indoor floors. As the tips wear down over years of use, it moves to harder surfaces. Worn further still, it sweeps the entryway or outdoors. The broom is never discarded. It is reassigned.
Perfect pairing
Pair this broom with the Harimi Dustpan — washi paper lacquered with persimmon tannin. No plastic, no static. For complete home coverage, add the Short Handle 75cm for stairs and tight spaces, or the Full Size 125cm for larger rooms.

Hang the broom when not in use to prevent the tips from bending and getting damaged. Shake the broom gently outdoors after each use to remove dust.
Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, which can dry the fibers. If the bristles become misshapen, mist the tips lightly with water, reshape gently, and hang to air-dry completely before use.
