A statement piece for the kitchen, the Yamaichi Hinoki Grand Round Cutting Board embodies the spacious elegance of Japanese design. Handcrafted in the Kiso region of Nagano, it offers a generous surface for comfortable, rhythmic cutting and beautiful table presentation. Made from masame ita — straight-grained Hinoki wood joined seamlessly through Yamaichi’s traditional bonding technique — it delivers the perfect balance of softness, stability, and quiet refinement.
About Yamaichi
Founded in 1973 in Nagiso-machi, deep within the Kiso Valley, Yamaichi was born from a mission to preserve Japan’s centuries-old woodcraft traditions. The Kiso forests have long supplied the cypress used to build temples, shrines, and fine household tools. Continuing this heritage, Yamaichi selects Hinoki aged 100–300 years and crafts each piece with precise joinery, honoring both the material and the craftsman’s hand.
Features & Benefits
-
Crafted from Kiso Hinoki — prized for its straight grain, natural elasticity, and antibacterial qualities.
-
Round and versatile — rotate as you chop for balanced cutting and even wear.
-
Dual-use design — ideal as both a prep board and a serving plate for bread, fruit, or sushi.
-
Stable and easy to handle — a flat edge lets you stand it upright for drying; 3 cm thickness ensures stability.
-
Traditional Japanese joinery — precise lamination provides the strength of a single-piece board, preventing warping and cracking.
-
Naturally aromatic — Hinoki’s distinct fragrance comes from its essential oils, sometimes surprising first-time users but entirely natural. The scent softens beautifully with use.
Available Sizes

Care & Maintenance
- Rinse with warm water after use and wipe dry immediately.
- Stand upright on its flat edge to air-dry in the shade.
- Avoid soaking or exposing to direct sunlight.
- If natural resin (yani) appears, wipe with hot water or alcohol.
