A modern folding fan in genuine Okayama selvedge denim.
Made by Nishikawa Shoroku, an old Omi merchant house in Shiga that has traded fine goods across Japan since 1585. The fabric is Japan Blue selvedge denim from Okayama, the denim capital of Japan. It is 8 oz, non-washed, in a deep and even indigo, finished with a red selvedge edge that shows along the top when the fan opens, the mark of real woven denim that denim wearers recognize at a glance.
The ribs are bamboo, split and shaved by hand, wide and straight for a strong, clean line against the dark cloth. Like a good pair of jeans, the denim softens and deepens the more you carry it, so it comes to look like yours and no one else's.
It folds flat to fit a bag or a jacket pocket, and opens to a steady breeze on a hot train, a still afternoon, or a walk with no wind. Nothing to charge, nothing to replace. It arrives in a paulownia gift box with a matching denim sleeve, ready to keep for years or to give.
