Since 1960, Kikusui Sangyo has been manufacturing and selling bamboo products that are made in Japan. They made these bamboo chopsticks without urethane coating. Other bamboo chopsticks are usually coated with urethane, but this product is manufactured without coating.

They select bamboo from Fukuoka and Kagoshima Prefectures. Then, Bamboo is steamed (carbonized) in a kettle at high temperature and high pressure. The carbonization process is expected to have anti-fungus and anti-mold effects. No bleach or chemical fungicide are used to make these chopsticks. 

Because of the natural material, there are slight variations. The thickest part is approximately 5.4 mm in diameter. They are slightly thinner style than the usual chopsticks.
