Since 1960, Kikusui Sangyo has been manufacturing and selling bamboo products that are made in Japan. These bamboo chopsticks are made without urethane coating, unlike many other bamboo chopsticks on the market. The bamboo is selected from Fukuoka and Kagoshima Prefectures and then steamed (carbonized) in a kettle at high temperature and high pressure. This carbonization process is expected to have anti-fungus and anti-mold effects. No bleach or chemical fungicides are used to make these chopsticks.
Because of the natural material, there are slight variations in each chopstick. The thickest part is approximately 5.4 mm in diameter, making them slightly thinner than usual chopsticks.
