Shamoji is a large flat spoon for stirring and serving rice. Shamoji is used to mix vinegar into rice when making sushi rice. They are traditionally made of wood or bamboo but are now frequently made of plastic.
Hinoki Shamoji is handcrafted from the finest Hinoki (Japanese Cypress). Hinoki is distinguished by its delicate lines and smooth surface. It has antibacterial effects that keep it from rotting. The gentle fragrance of fragrant cypress could be noticeable and enjoyed.
Because each piece is handcrafted, no two are alike in form or grain.
The corners have been rounded to fit comfortably in the palm of the hand, and the finish is rustic and comfortable.
After the rice has been cooked, use the shamoji to gently fluff the entire portion of rice to ensure there is no moisture trapped beneath the surface. This helps to prepare the rice for serving. You want to avoid grains smashed together. Then, using shamoji, scoop and lightly pat down rice onto your plate or into your bowl.
You can keep the rice from sticking to the shamoji by dipping it into the water frequently.
