Shigaraki ware (also known as Shigaraki yaki in Japanese) is pottery produced in Shiga prefecture's Shigaraki area. Shigaraki ware is one of the Six Ancient Kilns of Japan. It is regarded as one of the most outstanding Japanese kilns, along with Bizen, Tamba, Echizen, Seto, and Tokoname, with traditions that continue to this day. Shigaraki ware is estimated to have a 1,260-year history.
