The donburi bowl is bigger and deeper than a normal rice bowl. They are used to serve Donburi dishes, which are cooked fish, meat, vegetables, or other foods over rice.

The size and shape of donburi bowls make them great for serving salad, cereal, and yogurt, among other things.

Shigaraki ware (also known as Shigaraki yaki in Japanese) is pottery produced in Shiga prefecture's Shigaraki area. Shigaraki ware is one of the Six Ancient Kilns of Japan. It is regarded as one of the most outstanding Japanese kilns, along with Bizen, Tamba, Echizen, Seto, and Tokoname, with traditions that continue to this day. It is estimated to have a 1,260-year history.

Kushime is a technique for engraving parallel lines on a soft raw material with a comb with numerous separate tips.

Kohiki is a technique in which white mud with high water content is applied to the entire surface of colored clay work to make it appear whiter.
