Hydrangea Season in Japan

Hydrangea season is one of the most beautiful seasons in Japan. You will see some of the most incredible displays of hydrangeas around the country.

Unshoji Temple 雲昌寺, also known as Hydrangea Temple, is located in Oga City in Akita Prefecture. The blue and purple flowers bloom every year from the end of June into the month of July.

Meigetsu-in Temple 明月院 is a zen temple in Kamakura in Kanagawa Prefecture. Kamakura is an ancient city, and one of the most popular day trip destinations for people in the Tokyo area.

The rainy season in Japan typically lasts from early June to mid-July. Although the rain can bring muggy and wet weather, the hydrangea brightens the days by coloring the streets in vibrant pinks, purples, and blues.
